UK to Adopt Chinese Maths Learning System in Schools
The UK Department for Education has announced an educational reform to mirror Chinese-style mathematical learning in approximately 8,000 UK primary schools. The Department has announced an investment of £41.1 million for teacher training and materials. The reform comes as a reaction to Chinese students surpassing their UK counterparts by about 3 years, based on standardized international tests. The new method will be implemented in about half of all UK primary schools. The Department has stated, however, that the new method will be modified as necessary to fit British culture and primary school students’ learning abilities.
