Tsinghua and Peking Universities rank in THE’s World Reputation Rankings
Two Chinese universities made it into the 2014 Times Higher Education (THE) top 100 world reputation rankings, both based in Beijing. Tsinghua University ranked 36th (down from 35 in 2013) and Peking University increased four positions to 41st place. The rankings are based on the opinions of experienced published academics and focus on research and teaching within their discipline and at institutions at which they are familiar. In an interview with the People’s Daily Online, THE’s editor Phil Baty suggested that increased investment in universities to attract high-quality faculty and students, increased internationalization in research collaboration and networks, as well as recruitment would help Chinese universities rise in the rankings.
