Private International Schools On the Rise
According to a report released by NSI (NewSchool Media), A-level curriculum now comprises 40% of market shares in international school curriculums, followed by AP (26%) and IB (14%), while Canadian and Australian curriculums make up 20% of market shares. Private schools are becoming the dominant stakeholders, taking up more than half of IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization) and AP certifications, and over 60% of the Cambridge English, AQA and PTE certifications. Amongst the 87 new bilingual / international schools that opened in 2018 in China, only 3 are targeting non-Chinese passport holders; the total number of foreign students in China is on the decline. The number of private bilingual / international schools have now surpassed the total number of public schools with international programs and public international schools.
