Nesos have implemented IELTS as their English language testing system and, since 2004, the Neso Certificate has been a special condition of admission for Chinese students. The certificate requires an IELTS score of 6 for entry into Bachelor’s programs, as well as valid pre-schooling. After 2010, the Neso Certificate was rebranded as the NUFFIC Certificate, issued directly from The Hague.

Over 4,000 Chinese students study in Holland each year, compromising 5-8% of all international students in the country, the third-highest number of Chinese students in the EU behind Germany and Italy.
