MoE Unifies English Proficiency Tests

The Chinese MoE has released guidelines to unify the English proficiency testing and rating system, which will be fully released in 2017. The new guidelines present a series of reforms in English tests, with standards set to regulate the country’s English testing under a consistent and unified criteria with three distinct goals: academic performance, higher education entrance examination and professional job requirements. There will be gradual assessment of English proficiency, with nine grades from a low to high level, each with its own requirements for language skills including listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating.
