MOE Penalizes 4 Sino-Foreign Joint Programs For Over-Enrolment
The MOE recently announced the completion of its nationwide evaluation and appraisement of existing Sino-foreign joint university programs. The program was launched in early 2013 to assess and improve teaching quality and standards of existing joint programs. Of the 346 institutions and programs examined, 83 per cent complied with quality standards, while 14 per cent were granted a conditional pass and will be re-evaluated again next year. Four programs failed the MOE’s assessment after admitting additional students beyond the agreed-upon enrolment numbers. The four programs, based in Tianjin University of Technology, Henan University of Technology, Jilin University of Finance and Economics and Heilongjiang’s Heihe University, were asked to reduce the number of students they recruit or stop recruiting entirely.
