Increasing Number of International High Schools Attracts 368,000 Students
According to the China International School Blue Print (Center for China & Globalization and the Beijing Royal School), international schools/divisions have seen dramatic growth in the last 7 years, with more than 300 new schools established, taking the total to 661 (including international divisions). Less than half of these 661 schools are privately-owned, and the remainder are public school affiliated. Of the 368,000 students enrolled in the international school system, 90% have parents with no experience studying abroad, and 40% attend these schools as a stepping stone towards studying abroad. The tuition fees range from RMB50,000 – 150,000 (USD7,000 – 22,000) per annum, with the highest fees reaching over USD40,000 per annum.
