How Much Do International Schools in China Pay

Here Are the Numbers From Teaching Assistants to Principals:

TopSchools (a leading K-12 education platform) recently released a report on salaries and allowances in international schools in China.

In 2021, foreign teachers’ salaries at entry-level increased by 11%, but decreased by 14% at senior-level; Chinese teachers’ salaries at senior-level increased 16%. Teachers’ income in first-tier cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen) is 21% higher than teachers in second-tier cities. The average income of foreign teachers is twice as much as their Chinese counterparts.

In 2021, 72% of schools offered commercial health insurance to foreign teachers, a 25% increase from the previous year.

Over 90% of schools provide tuition-related welfare to their teachers for their children’s education: free tuition is the most commonly adopted policy.
