Hebei Province To Reduce Examinable Subjects in Gaokao
According to the provincial education department, Hebei province plans to reduce the number of subjects tested in the Gaokao (China’s university entrance exam) to three. From 2018 onwards, the comprehensive exam will be removed from the exam schedule, with students only required to sit exams for Chinese, mathematics and English. Students taking humanities subjects will no longer be examined on their knowledge of geography, history and politics, while science students will not have to sit exams for physics, biology and chemistry. As well, exams will be held several times a year, instead of just once for the national exam. The implementation plan for this policy reform is expected to be released in June, with detailed implementation procedures outlined by the end of the year.
