Guangdong University of Foreign Studies to offer Cybersecurity Graduate Program
In response to a huge gap in demand and supply in the cybersecurity field, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies will offer a cybersecurity graduate program from September 2017. The Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the MoE added cybersecurity to engineering degrees in 2015, “to implement the national security strategy and accelerate the cultivation of high-level talent for cybersecurity”, but fewer than 15,000 university students go on to graduate in the cybersecurity field each year. By the end of 2014, 700,000 cybersecurity experts were needed in China, and a whopping 1.4 million will be needed by 2020. GDUFS is among 10 universities offering the new cybersecurity program, with two beginning recruitment last autumn, and the other eight launching in September.
