First Chinese Private Hospitals Become “Public University Affiliated”

The privilege of Chinese hospitals affiliated with public medical universities traditionally only been given to public hospitals. However recently more private hospitals have also entered agreement with medical universities. The earliest is the Donggan Donghua Hospital, which officially became Sun Yet Sun University’s affiliated hospital as early as 2005. Since, Hexin Hospital (Taiwan investor) became affiliated with Shanghai Health Medical University, Shulan Hospital became affiliated with Beijing Aeronautics and Astronautics University, Sanbo Brain Hospital became affiliated with Capital Medical University. These, and many other examples, indicate a more private-public collaboration in the medical field. Although the reason for such affiliation is been portrait as the necessity to expand the medical students’ training base, it definitely give the private hospital more credibility to the general public.
