Chinese Researchers Awarded Mathematics Prize
Dr. YUN Zhiwei (Yale University) and Dr. ZHANG Wei (Colombia University), both of whom completed their undergraduate degrees at Peking University and their PhDs in the US, are two of the four winners of the 2018 New Horizons in Mathematics Breakthrough Prize. The two were awarded the prize for their mathematical achievements on the global Gan–Gross–Prasad conjecture, and the discovery of geometric interpretations for the higher derivatives of L-functions. The Breakthrough Prize, funded by the founders of Google and Facebook, Yuri Milner and Mark Zuckerberg respectively, is up to USD3 million and includes USD100,000 for new researchers.
