China’s MoE to Establish Elite Universities in Underprivileged Provinces
The Chinese Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced the establishment of elite Universities in 14 central and western provinces that are deprived of high quality higher education. Through this establishment, China plans to narrow the nation’s wide education gap. The government aims to improve education quality while cultivating more talent to support the local economy and reduce the education gap by 2020. At present, less than 10 percent of rural students are enrolled at first-class universities.
