Manning 博士是一名国际知名教师和专家,波士顿东北大学国际教育学博士。Manning 博士在教师职业发展、全球教育、英语教学(TESOL)、跨文化能力和留学申请方面有资深的指导经历,曾在美国、亚洲、澳大利亚和欧洲担任兼职教授、教师培训师和生涯规划师,同时也是哈佛大学的客座教师。Manning 博士目前是美国麻州公立学区全球教育和外语交流主任。此外还作为独立教育顾问,为全球各地的学校和国际组织服务。

Teachers will learn how to create SMART goals for student achievement that are specific, timely, and measurable. While these goals are specific to grade level and subject(s) taught, this workshop is appropriate for all educators, as it will dive into both theory and practice regarding the essential nature of setting lesson objectives and expectations for each task. Overarching lesson objectives will be designed, along with key indicators that demonstrate when students have achieved each goal.

The social emotional health of students is paramount to their success, not only as students, but also as humans. Teachers will learn strategies to help foster the social emotional health and well-being of students in their care. As well, they will learn self help skills specifically designed for teachers, as emotionally strong teachers lead to emotionally strong students, resulting in better self-regulation, higher student achievement, and higher teacher retention.

In this session, teachers will learn about a wide variety of assessment strategies that move far beyond the typical “test.” Benchmark, Formative, Summative, Creative, and Alternative assessments will all be addressed. Moreover, as important as the assessment itself, is the data that is generated and what teachers do with that data. Therefore, this session will also highlight hoe to effectively use assessment data to drive instruction.

Strategies such as movement and learning, use of multiple modalities, student-inquiry, and shared dialogue will be highlighted. When students are invested and excited about their learning, and understand that they are a partner in the creation of knowledge, opportunities for enhanced achievement abounds.

This course will discuss tiered instruction, oral language strategies (BICS vs. CALPS) and will highlight the latest research in quickly moving students forward in language acquisition.

In our globalized world, many students will likely hold jobs that require them to work beyond borders, either physically or virtually. To be successful in the global workforce, students need to possess a variety of intercultural competencies. Based on the research of Deardorff, NAFSA, and the Asia Society, teachers will learn strategies to infuse CRT within their own practice, and to impart them to all students.

Learning no longer exists solely within the four walls of a classroom. Teachers will learn techniques to thoughtfully and intentionally engage families and the community to build bridges and gain support for student learning. Using the World Café Model and the Five Protective Factors of Strengthening Families, teachers will create a blueprint to help them engage families and community in a robust way that will strengthen connections in the home, classroom, school, and community.

Connecting Classrooms Across Cultures

Teachers will learn a variety of ways to enable them to connect with other classrooms across the world. Using a vast teacher, student, and school network, the facilitator will share proven strategies to enhance students’ intercultural understandings about classroom content. Teachers will develop such strategies as: creating plans to co-teach classes with international peers, begin virtual pen-pal sessions in which students are working on solving a common problem or issue, and creating opportunities for students to connect organically with international peers. As well, they will begin to develop a peer network of international educators, which will lend new perspective to their own practice.
