Analysis on International Schools within China Published
The “2018 International School Analysis in China” report was recently published by Chinese K-12 newcomer TopSchools. It states that, by Sept 30th, there are 62 newly added international schools, while 20 names are diminished due to shut-down or M&A activities. The total number of international/bilingual schools has now reached 1028, of which 88.8% are private bilingual schools. It also noted that approximately a third of the international / bilingual schools which planned to open in 2018 boarded. Guangdong topped the number of international / bilingual schools (149), followed by Jiangsu, Shanghai and Beijing (100+), then Zhejiang and Sichuan (50+)， in 2018. Most of the increase occurred in East China. There are 210,000 students studying at international / bilingual programs at primary school level, and 130,000 at senior high-school level. The report also lists the international brands such as GEMS, Nord Anglia, QSI; the popularity of curriculums: GAC, Cambridge (A-Level), Edexcel (A-Level) and IB; as well as the active level of the international accreditation.
