Shanghai Ranking Announces Top Disciplines in China

Shanghai Ranking (or Best University Net), operated by Shanghai Run Ke Education consulting company, recently published the 91 top disciplines in China covering 453 universities. More than 50 disciplines from 18 Chinese universities form China’s top 1% of disciplines, in addition to Tsinghua, Peking, Remin and Fudan, Peking Normal, and Xian Jiaotong universities, that also have 3 disciplines each in the top 1%. Over 40 Chinese universities hold the “top ranking discipline”, and the cities of Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai have clear advantages in terms of the number of disciplines and universities included in the rankings, followed by Guangdong, Hubei and Shanxi.
While most of the top disciplines are not surprisingly held by well-known universities, there are also some exceptions, such as Nanjing Arts College and South-Western University, which are both included in the top 3 ranking for Art Theory. The top discipline of Agriculture and Forestry Economic Management is offered by Nanjing Agricultural University, and China Central S&T’s Public health surpassed Fudan to become the top public health discipline in China.
