Coursera Celebrates More Than One Million Registered Users in China

In July, Coursera announced more than one million registrations from China, with the country becoming their second largest market after the US. While most US consumer Internet companies have a hard time breaking into China owing to cultural differences and the Internet firewall, Coursera has been successful through partnerships with local companies and universities, localizing their website and translating content, and developing a local distribution network (through NetEase). The company has now also enabled Chinese users to make payments via Alipay, a leading third-party payment platform in China.
