Chinese Universities Barred from Offering Unreasonable Benefits

The Chinese MoE released a notice barring universities from luring students with the promise of extra benefits such as excessive scholarships or placement promises. The notice was released after recent criticism between Tsinghua and Peking universities relating to efforts to attract top gaokao scorers. Recruitment teams at both universities accused each other of ‘buying’ students and making promises that would ultimately go unfulfilled, such as transferring students into more desirable programs after enrolment. Both universities have denied the allegations.
