Chinese Genome Institute and Birmingham University To Set Up Joint Research Institute

BGI, the world’s largest genome research institute, based in Shenzhen, has signed a partnership with Birmingham University to create a new research center in the UK. The Joint Centre for Environmental Omics (JCEO) will focus on environment, health and global diversity through the analysis of the toxicity of compounds. BGI has over 5000 employees including more than 1000 bioinformatics specialists, and will provide the JCEO with laboratory technicians and bioinformaticians, who will then collaborate with scientists from the University of Birmingham and other international partners.
