Gaokao Available in Braille

According to a notice from the MOE, Chinese students will soon be able to sit the university entrance examination (or Gaokao) in braille. Human rights advocates have welcomed the move, indicating that this will be the first time that blind or visually impaired students will be able to sit the exam, although many are waiting to see how the government plans to provide accessible tests in practice. Nevertheless, according to a Human Rights Watch report published last year, access to mainstream universities in China is limited for students with disabilities, which may lead to future challenges in finding a university that would accommodate their needs.
