MOE Encourages Chinese Universities to Establish Academic Committees

China’s MOE is encouraging Chinese universities to establish academic committees to improve university governance. Committees will evaluate, supervise and make decisions on campus academic affairs, with decision powers extending to the establishment of new majors, criteria for hiring new faculty members and appraisal of academic research. The MOE indicated that committees should be composed of at least 15 members, of which at least half of the positions to be allocated to non-administrative professors and only one-quarter to administrative staff.
