Gaokao reform to eliminate English

The Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE) has released a draft reform plan for the gaokao – the national college entrance examination – that eliminates English. In the new plan, English will not be a gaokao test subject; instead, students can take English exams twice a year and only the highest score will be counted. The reform is to be piloted in several provinces from 2014 and, following a review period, the program will be expanded in 2017. (Source: Xinhua)
